About 1500 years ago the young Godhai of Srivilliputhur, known as Aandaal, learned from the Puranas recited to her by her father Vishnuchittar that Varuna was the lord of the seas and Indra was the lord of the rains. When Godhai and the girls in the village got together to celebrate the traditional Paavai Nobu in the month of Marghazhi to solicit plenty of rains and prosperity to the entire world, she had an idea.
Gothai imagined that if there is a way to bring the abundant water in the seas to the sky as clouds and make them shed their water on to the earth the whole world can get plenty of water and become prosperous. Gothai imagined herself and her friends to be the innocent Gopis of Aayarpadi (Gokulam), who were very dear to Lord Krishna and prayed to him to carry out the task, addressing him as the lord of both the seas and the rains and asking him to offer this small help.
Oh Krishna, Lord of the seas and the rains please do us a small favour! First you should get into the womb of the deep sea and take plenty of water, then rise up in the sky with thunders. The colour of your body should become as dark as that of Lord Vishnu, the creator of the Universe. You should become resplendent with lightning, just as the dazzling discus held in the hand of Lord Padmanabha with broad shoulders. You should make a thunderous roar like the sound of the conch held in the hand of the Lord. You should bring forth rains in abundance without any cessation, just like the shower of arrows coming forth in succession from your bow, for the good of the whole world so that the world flourishes. Through the rain thus gifted by you, we too will have plenty of water and we will happily take the ceremonial bath during month of Marghazhi.

The immediate aim of The Aandal Project is to solve the water scarcity in Chennai by developing the Champarampakkam Lake as a storage of rain water and desalinated sea water produced through Solar/Wind powered units.
The ultimate aim is to expose and showcase to the world the spiritual, cultural and literary heritage of several millenniums of Tamil Nadu, of which the Thiruppavai of Aandaal, sung and revered by millions of Tamils even today is all but the tip of the iceberg!
Focussing on Aandaal and her Thiruppavai, which is the only known literary work sung by millions of Tamil speaking peoples 1500 years after it was written, The Aandaal project aims to develop the spiritual, cultural and literary goldmine extending from Chennai to Kancheepuram as the jewel of the cultural and heritage tourism of the world.
The Aandaal Project will resurrect and educate the world of the spiritual, cultural and literary heritage hidden in the Tamil and Sanskrit creations of the 12 Alwars, 63 Nayanars and a host of Saints like Adi Sankara, Ramanuja, Vedanta Desikan, Madhavachyara and others, through educational and entertainment media creations aided by technology.
The Aandaal Project will generate the investment by release of a crypto currency named ANDAL and the recurring revenue from operating a top tourist enterprise, for the development of water resources for the needy in the entire world.
The Champakamparam lake near
Chennai will be developed by excavating to maximum depth and
all around stainless steel piling, as a clean water storage
for greater Chennai extending up to
Sriperambadur.
The lake will serve as a rain
water storage and a buffer for flood control using
Artificial Intelligence based control system and dedicated
rain water collection and flood water lift network around
Chennai.
Desalinated sea water produced
through solar powered units will replenish water levels and
a canal and lift system will supply area up to
Sriperumbadur.

botanical gardens and promenades replicating ancient Tamil
culture and life for tourism.
If there is ONE literary
creation which enthrals millions of people to still recite
it in its original version after 1500 years, for its
simplicity, beauty and depth of wisdom and devotion, and
brings tears of bliss in their eyes every time they do, it
is Aandaal's Thiruppavai.
Each of the thirty Paasurams
(stanza) of Thiruppavai, sung by millions of Tamil and
Telugu speaking people during the month of Maarghazhi
(December-January) is a literary piece of work sans
